Laser treatment for vaginal wall prolapse

Erbium (Er:YAG) laser treatment of vaginal wall prolapse is performed without incisions: ProlapLase is extremely precise and carefully controlled laser energy that treats the entire wall of the vaginal canal to achieve a tightening effect. In the case of a cystocele (bladder prolapse) the laser focuses on the front part of the vagina, while in the case of a rectocele (rectal prolapse) it focuses on the back part.

The aim is to apply a painless thermal effect to the treated surface, where the collagen fibres contract and then multiply over 3–6 months. The result is a tightening, thickening and strengthening effect on the tissues, which helps to support the prolapsed organs. Unlike vaginoplasty, ProlapLase treatment does not remove any tissue from the vaginal wall. Depending on the degree of prolapse, 3–4 treatments are usually needed to ensure an effective and long-lasting result.
