In this treatment, the epithelium covering the cervix is removed using an erbium (Er:YAG) laser. A single session of this type of treatment is sufficient. According to currently available international data, the rate of lasting HPV negativity and/or lasting negative cytology results after treatment is 93.4%, which is more than excellent.
The outpatient treatment is completely painless under local anaesthesia.
Indications include:
- high-risk HPV positivity
- cervical dysplasia
- cervical erosion
- Cervical ablation treatment: 120 000 HUF 96 000 HUF (recommended number of treatments: 1)
1. Laser treatment of the cervix against HPV
A positive HPV result is no reason to despair, as today’s modern laser technology makes it possible to reduce the development of clinical abnormalities with just a few treatments. It is important to know that the HPV virus is most often found above the so-called basement membrane of the cervical epithelium. A 15-minute, painless outpatient laser treatment offers a solution even in the case of HPV infection.
Treating the surface of the cervix and the cervical canal with an Er:YAG laser vaporises the surface epithelium (laser vaporisation), destroying the vast majority of all HPV types at the same time. During the treatment, all types of HPV viruses multiplying in the surface epithelium are removed by vaporising the surface epithelium. In the first step, the surface of the cervix is treated, then, using a special 2 mm laser handpiece, the surface epithelium is vaporised working outwards from the internal os. Re-epithelialisation takes place within a few weeks, and the viruses can usually no longer be detected in the regenerated epithelium. According to statistical data, lasting HPV negativity was found in almost 65% of cases after one treatment, 76% after a second and 92% after a third treatment.
The treatment is short, lasting 15 minutes, completely painless, requires no anaesthesia or sedation, causes no bleeding and involves no recovery time. The effectiveness of the treatment can be checked with repeat screening, and the treatment can be repeated if necessary. Epithelial renewal is also true prevention. Tumorous changes take several years to develop. With annual vaporisation of the cervical epithelium, early epithelial degeneration cannot progress even if a small amount of HPV can still be detected after treatment.
At our laser centre, complete HPV screening is also available as part of our gynaecology clinic.
2. Cervical dysplasia
Cervical dysplasia is a precancerous condition of the cervix. In this case, the task is to remove the infected cervical mucosa. Depending on the cytology result or biopsy, the condition can be treated with a laser procedure or with cold knife conisation (cervicoplasty).
3. Treatment of cervical erosion
In the case of cervical erosion, the main complaints are increased discharge and spotting after sexual contact. Following laser treatment, a new epithelial layer forms by the end of the 2nd month and the previous complaints disappear.
