In Hungary, for women between the ages of 15 and 44, the 2nd most common cancer (after breast cancer) is cervical cancer, 95% of which can be attributed to HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) infection.
Research has identified more than 150 types of HPV, most of which are harmless and our immune system can fight them off without help and unnoticed. However, 14 high-risk viruses that can lead to cancer have been isolated, of which viruses No. 16 and 18 pose the greatest risk, with a 20x greater risk of developing cervical cancer.
80% of sexually active adults will experience HPV infection during their lifetime without being sexually active. And as surprising as it may seem, our male partners are also affected by the disease, since they carry and pass on the virus in case of infection. According to the latest research, it can also cause malignant neoplastic diseases in men (penis, colon, oral cavity, pharynx), as well as changes in the genital organs.

The first and most important step in order to avoid or detect the disease early is to participate in the screening test, which is recommended to be done annually, even if someone lives in a long-term relationship.

Results are published within 10 working days.

For HPV screening, we recommend undergoing a comprehensive gynecological examination, which proceeds as follows:

• The first step of the gynecological examination is the discussion of any complaints and history,
• This is followed by the bimanual gynecological examination,
• This is followed by oncocytological and HPV-X sampling
• The complex gynecological screening is completed by the vaginal pelvic ultrasound examination
